The difference between tenacity and crazy

iStock_000016080143XSmallToday I have been thinking about two separate yet seemingly contradictory truisms.

Truism 1: “If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.”

Truism 2: “Winners never quit and quitters never win.”

What has me thinking about this is an announcement by Melanie Spring, principal at Sisarina, that she will no longer be using Facebook to promote Sisarina.  (She is quitting it personally as well but that is another story.)  I have a lot of respect for Melanie and for Sisarina.  They did the design and development of my website before I decided to return to my roots as a web product/project manager and do that work myself.  So this announcement was one that got me thinking.

In this business owner/entrepreneur world, there are lots and lots of things I am still figuring out. Quite honestly, social media is one of those things. I haven’t yet unraveled the mysteries of how to gain a motivated and active fan base, how to promote this blog, how to use these tools to promote my business. My standard thought process on this is that I need to keep trying and I will figure it out eventually.

Reading Melanie’s words in her blog about the realization that Facebook was providing no value and that they should quit got me wondering though… how exactly do you decide when you are still being tenacious vs when you are defining insanity? [trying the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome]

No answers here, just the question.
