On Giving Back

I don’t know about you, but I am currently up to my eyeballs in product reviews and price comparisons of gaming systems for my daughter. Heaven knows what will happen if I bring the wrong one home. The mad holiday rush is on!

It’s always a good idea, both on a personal and a professional level, to take some time out from the craziness to give back during the holiday season. They say that money can’t buy you happiness, but if you are spending money on others, psychological studies show it actually makes you happier. And luckily, you don’t even need to donate $45 billion to experience firsthand the lesson that “it’s better to give than to receive.”

Every year, Spring Insight donates a portion of our profits to charity. It is a practice that started in our first year in business and it literally one of my favorite parts of owning my own business. This year, I got personal with my donations. Here is where the money went.

  • Working Bikes: This charity is very near and dear to my heart because Chicago is the city Spring Insight 2015 Giving Programwhere my dad was born and where he passed away last year. My dad also loved to bicycle riding between 100 and 200 miles a week.
  • Operation Paws for Homes: This contribution honors my new puppy Sirius, who may as well be on the payroll at Spring Insight, since she is always by my side while I work at my desk (and meet with team members online).
  • Maryland Women’s Business Center (MWBC): When I first started my business I couldn’t tell an LLC from an SCorp. Ok, truth time, I still can’t. But MWBC was there to tell me what I needed to know to start Spring Insight with their “ABCs of starting a business. So I am reaching back to help other women start their businesses by donating to MWBC.

We would love to hear how you are giving back this season. Drop us an email and tell us!
